Cantine Lombardo: a story of a family that began in 1881.
The history of Cantine Lombardo dates back to over a century ago when Giuseppe Lombardo Maltese, a professional shipowner, thought it best to fully exploit the loading capacity of his ships, also marketing Marsala wine. Even then, the company's vocation to export its wines was emerging.
The company has remained family-run, led by the great-grandchildren Orazio and Ermelinda Lombardo, linked to ancient traditions but driven by a strong motivation towards innovation.
Today the cellar, located facing the sea, occupies 20,000 square meters and its structure reflects the expansion that took place over a century: the tuff and masonry warehouses dating back to the end of the nineteenth century are flanked by the concrete ones from the last century and the most recent ones, built in 2000.
Cantine Lombardo's Marsala is produced in various types, with grapes that respect the constraint of 100 quintals per hectare of yield. Among the labels on offer, Marsala Vergine Soleras Oro stands out, obtained from Catarratto and Grillo's vineyards grown with the Marsala sapling system. The grapes are harvested in mid-September, when after soft pressing, they undergo a slow and temperature-controlled fermentation. Only wine alcohol is added to the base wine, followed by aging for a minimum of 10 years in oak barrels.
The Lombardo family is pleased to invite you to visit their premises and to accompany you in an exclusive free tasting in their historic cellar. It is a unique opportunity to discover and appreciate their excellent wines.
