The history of the ancient Lilibeo
The “Decumano Massimo”(Decumanus Maximus) are placed within the archaeological area of Capo Boeo, and was the most important street in the city of Marsala dating back to Roman times. It was used until the fourth century after Christ.
The road, about 150 meters long, was unearthed thanks to archaeological excavations that were carried out in Viale Vittorio Veneto, it reopened after about 20 years, and now it is brought back to light.
The street is characterized by slabs of white Custonaci stone, making it a unique example of Roman town planning in Sicily.
Located in the heart of the city of Marsala, between Piazza della Vittoria and Capo Boeo, it represents an important junction between the historic center and the coast.
